There’s no doubt about it, kitchens sell properties. Why not think of DIY ways that you could improve yours? People tend to prefer larger kitchens, but even if yours isn’t the grandest there are still ways to give the appearance of space with a few tricks of the trade. View your house through the eyes of your Realtor (and ultimately your potential buyer). Again, creating the appearance of space is a no-brainer and there are a number of ways of achieving this without spending a fortune. Tone down walls to neutral where possible, tasteful feature walls are fine, but any kind of bright wallpaper probably needs to go. If you can replace flooring then do so, paler floors follow the neutral theme and yes, you guessed it, give the illusion of space.
If you are worried about your home seeming bland then add splashes of color with cushions, throws and accessories. In living areas, in particular, creating a cohesive color theme through rooms gives your property more flow and this will add value. Remove clutter and minimize personal items. You want your would-be buyer to see beyond your belongings and personal touches (which may not be to their taste) and see the potential in your home.

You may have heard people talk about ‘curb appeal’ and improving your outdoor space is definitely an additional way of adding value to your property. Tidy up all outside areas, even if this just means touching up the exterior paint or changing the color of your front door. Don’t underestimate the power of a few plants here and there. You don’t have to be a gardening aficionado, adding some colorful plants to a few pots and planters makes all the difference (and you can take them with you when you move!)
Giving the makeover treatment to the exterior of your house doesn’t have to be expensive. Your aim is for potential buyers to be wowed the minute they see your property. First impressions do count and if buyer expectations are higher from the outset, they are more likely to overlook any little flaws in the interior.
